Free Python Guides


Hello everyone. I have come across a small collection of python guides that I am willing to share with the community. I'm not sure if these are released or not, but I highly doubt they've been released as a pack like this, so I figured I'd share with all of you to help you all with learning python. Below is a list of all the guides included that I am offering. Just a heads up for any of you interested in this, one guide is in TXT, and the rest are either in PDF or HTML format. There is a total of 12 guides included with this. I couldn't tell you if any of these are too outdated or if they're just right for what you're working with so that's for you to sort through. I'm just giving you what I can. Also before ANYONE accuses me of leaching, I am telling you now, that I am not taking credit for ANY of these guides, nor were they taken from ANYONE from HackForums. I found these off of HF and put them together for you in a convenient file. All included files are freely available to download on the net if you search them. I ask that you say thank you for me taking the time to put this together for you.

  • Python 101 – Part of a university course this goes through the fundamentals as well as providing exercises.
  • Thinking in Python Design Patterns and Problem-Solving Techniques – A mammoth title written by the great Bruce Eckel.
  • Python Standard Library – This is seriously showing its age as it was originally written for Python 2.0. Although there’s updates they’re incomplete. Its still worth a look though to get a good idea of the Python core.
  • Python Programming Tutorial – It looks okay, though nothing ground breaking.
  • Django Book – A book on Pythons greatest web framework.
  • Pylons Book – A book on Pythons 3rd best web framework.
  • Advanced Python Programming – This is actually a 126 slide lecture given by a Chicago University lecturer. Some good stuff in here.

How does this work?
Lets start out with telling you how this works. First you have to join a website that I will be giving you. Once you are a member you can earn coins. Different ways you can earn them are by "like"ing other people's pages, "+1" their page, follow them on twitter or auto surf different sites. in exchange for you doing those you get certain amounts of "coins". They usually are about 8 coins per item you choose to do. Eventually they go down but if you wait a bit more 8's show up again. There are instructions on the site on how to do each method of earning coins. If you so choose, you may also pay for more coins to be used, but that's completely up to you.

What do I do with the coins?
After you have collected an amount of coins you can use those coins to get others to do the same thing you did. You can add your website for traffic exchange, add your twitter to gain followers, add a facebook page to get likes, add a google page to get +1's. Add your youtube to get views.

Does this really work?
Yes this really works. Though I have only just started this method for myself, I have seen my likes go up on my page and I gained a few more followers on twitter. Note, this isn't an instant thing. You gain more over time. When I began this method I had only 1 "Like", mine. Overnight with this method I gained another 28 likes.

What else should I know?
There are more features that will be incorporated into the site hopefully soon. These features include Digg followers, StumbleUpon followers, retweets, and linkedin followers. Explanation for what I did.

First off, I selected everything that was on the ground layer.
TIP: Lock all layers, then unlock the 'ground' layer. Hit CTRL + A to select all.

Right click and hit break apart:

Now go to your library and delete movieclip 'mc_ground', like so:

You now have a ground that isn't a movie clip. If you would test your application now, the ball character would fall by gravity but it will fall through the ground as it's not programmed.

Now for extending the ground. We want to draw some new ground.
Take the brush tool:

Draw a box, make it a little cartoony. No straight lines:

Now we've got the outline in black. Take the fill tool to fill it up!

Choose another fill color, I'll take grey:
